Chef Steven Fouts was born in San Pedro, California and raised in Roseburg, Oregon. His passion growing up was skateboarding and cooking. His grandmother peaked his cooking interest at a young age. She taught him cooking techniques that he incorporates in his work today.
Steven moved to Hawaii at the age of 19. His cooking career started as a dishwasher at a Mexican restaurant in Honolulu. In developing his career further, he took other positions around Hawaii from Wolfgang’s Steakhouse in Waikiki to Gordon Biersch Brewery at Aloha Tower. His skills and leadership landed him a position at Michele’s at the Colony Surf for 5 years.
Given the opportunity to run the kitchen at Safehouse was a key step in Steven’s cooking career. He put all his knowledge and creative instincts into a menu featuring Mexican- American influenced cuisine with French techniques to share with the people of Hawaii and visitors from around the world.
